Asking the same question three different ways, and the answer still doesn't land?
In therapy for OCD, and the intrusive thoughts are as loud as the day you walked in?
Everyone thinks you have it all together, and only you know about the checking?
I'm Dr. Lauren Levine, a licensed clinical psychologist. I work with high-functioning women who look completely fine on the outside while OCD runs on a loop on the inside. OCD is not primarily a thinking problem. It's a response problem. What the brain has learned to do in response is the real issue: check it, analyze it, ask for reassurance, avoid it entirely. Exposure and Response Prevention works on the response side. We retrain the response. Not the relationship. Not the thought itself. Just the response.
- 1. Answer the questions above and choose a time for a consultation call. Tell Dr. Lauren Levine what the loop looks like on a normal day, and she tells you whether her approach fits.
- 2. If it fits: individual sessions with Dr. Lauren Levine, for women in Washington, D.C. and Virginia.
- 3. The work, in her words: "I record 15 to 30 second audio clips that sound like your intrusive thoughts, and you listen to them. On purpose."
"The asking became the compulsion, and the compulsion is what's keeping the thought alive." · Dr. Lauren Levine
